Oscar-nominated director Tran Anh Hung (Cyclo, The Scent of Green Papaya) adapts Haruki Murakami’s international bestseller of loss and heartbreak in Tokyo in the late 60s. In an era of youthful rebellion, a young man finds himself torn. At heart, he is deeply devoted to his first love, a beautiful and introspective young woman (Oscar nominee Rinko Kikuchi), tied to him by a childhood tragedy.
