Shot through with black comedy and shocking violence, A TOUCH OF SIN is a portrait of the country’s ills, told in four interlinked stories of a miner, a migrant worker, a young job-seeker and a sauna receptionist (played by Jia’s longtime muse Zhao Tao). As ordinary people try to survive daily humiliations and fight endemic corruption, they discover a sense of powerless that threatens to explode into murderous rage.
