In Aïnouz’s (Madame Satã, Love for Sale) richly textured tale, two German swimmers get caught in an undertow in Brazil; Donato, a young lifeguard, manages to save only one, Konrad. Haunted, the men discover an intense physical attraction that becomes a deeper emotional bond, and Donato decides to leave everything to follow Konrad back to Berlin.
