Academy Award Nominee, Best Documentary Feature
Special DOC NYC encore screening, introduced by festival programmer Bedatri Choudhury and featuring an exclusive taped introduction by director Simon Lereng Wilmont.
IFC Center and DOC NYC are proud to present a special encore screening of A HOUSE MADE OF SPLINTERS, which had its New York premiere at the festival in November and went on to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature at this year’s Oscars. A rundown halfway house in Ukraine houses the country’s most vulnerable—children cramped between precarious homes and the foster care system. Simon Lereng Wilmont documents fast-disappearing childhoods amidst ever-worsening political strife with great intimacy and access. As the film records how children suffer and survive violence and abandonment, the “orphanage” becomes a metaphor for a home, a country and a world where people entrusted with leadership fail to rise up to their responsibilities.
Don’t miss your chance to catch a rare screening of this acclaimed documentary, not yet released in the US, and not available on any streaming platform.
