25th Anniversary!
“A diabolically adroit piece of filmmaking that goes even further than the excruciatingly macabre Dario Argento.” – Los Angeles Times
In his search for a new wife, a widowed TV producer stages a dating service to screen women and finds one who isn’t quite as perfect as her audition.
“Debatably the most notable film from Japanese director Takashi Miike, _Audition_ (1999) is a horrific trip into the outgrowths of grief and abuse. Widow Shigeharu Aoyama (Ryo Ishibashi) searches for a new wife by holding auditions for a sham movie. His scheme attracts Asami Yamazaki (Eihi Shiina), a young woman with an obscure past. Aoyama soon becomes enamored with Asami, but his casting process proves wiredrawn as their relationship unfolds.
I chose Audition for my staff pick because I am a sucker for a slow-burn!” –Staff Pick by Noah, Usher
