In the swampy backwaters of Southern Florida, cop’s daughter and disaffected housewife Cozy (Lisa Bowman) falls in with aimless bad boy Lee Ray (producer-editor Larry Fessenden). They turn would-be Bonnie and Clyde and hit out on the lam, only to find they have nowhere to go and nothing to do—and might not even be criminals. For fans of Reichardt’s later acclaimed dramas Wendy and Lucy and Meek’s Cutoff, her underseen debut proves to be a wryly, darkly funny revelation.
Restoration by Sundance Institute, Oscilloscope Laboratories, the UCLA Film & Television Archive and TIFF.
Screening in the program “RIVER OF GRASS and Its Sources,” paired with a selection of films that influenced its making.
