Star Jean-Pierre Daroussin in person! One of contemporary cinema’s most assiduous chroniclers of the politics of daily life, Robert Guédiguian (Marius and Jeanette, The Town is Quiet) begins his new work (inspired by a Victor Hugo peom) with the retirement party of Michel (Jean-Pierre Darroussin), a former union rep for dockworkers whose job has just been eliminated. His family chips in to send him and his wife off on a dream vacation to Kenya, but before they can pack their bags thieves burst into their home and steal all their money. Suspecting that one of the assailants might have been a former co-worker,  Michel starts to reflect on his own past of union activity—on the compromises and back-room deals, on the loss of ideals, and especially the failure of his generation to provide a future for young workers. Engaging, affecting, and never afraid to show its political heart,THE SNOWS OF KILIMANJARO offers an important parable for our times.
