Dir. in person! NY premiere!

WATCHERS OF THE SKY interweaves five stories of remarkable courage, compassion, and determination, while setting out to uncover the forgotten life of Raphael Lemkin—the man who created the word “genocide” and believed the law could protect the world from mass atrocities. Inspired by Samantha Power’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book, A Problem From Hell, Watchers of the Sky takes you on a provocative journey from Nuremberg to The Hague, from Bosnia to Darfur, from criminality to justice, and from apathy to action. Watchers of the Sky explores holding to account those who commit genocide and other atrocity crimes. Human Rights Watch is a leading proponent of fair, effective, and impartial prosecutions before international, hybrid, and domestic courts. We campaign actively for the arrest of those accused of these crimes. In countries such as Sierra Leone, Rwanda, Sudan, the former Yugoslavia, Ivory Coast, Syria, Libya, Chad, and Guinea, our careful research and relentless advocacy have helped make trials for these crimes—even for those who stand accused at the highest levels of power—a growing reality. Our work has been a significant force in creating the International Criminal Court, as well as a factor leading to the arrest and trials of Serbia’s Slobodan Milosevic and former Liberian president Charles Taylor.
