Will-o’-the-Wisp
Friday, May 26 - Thursday, June 15, 2023
Director João Pedro Rodrigues in person for Q&As following the screening on Friday, May 26 at 6:30 p.m. (moderated by critic Kyle Turner) and Saturday, May 27 at 8:35 p.m. (moderated by critic Ed Halter).
Opening in the year 2069, Rodrigues’s (O Fantasma, To Die Like a Man, The Ornithologist) latest mixes climate-change anxiety, anti-royalist sentiment and musical romance in the tale of Portugal’s king without a crown, Alfredo. On his deathbed, Alfredo recalls the glory days of his youth, when he put aside his princely ways to train as a firefighter and encountered an instructor who made him burn with desire.
